Should I just wait for the Mac plug-in for CometCursors to arrive?
When I load Biggy, it crashes.
Biggy lasts for 15 minutes, and says our time is up.
I was looking for
how
to get the full version or what ever I have to do to keep it running
all
the time.
What Mac System does Biggy run on?
How much would a site license be for BIGGY?
I would like to turn Biggy off once in a while.
We need to install Biggy on a PowerBook G3
(without
a 3.5 disk drive). No way possible at present without spending
loads
of $$ for more adapters.
Biggy sometimes leaves "footprints" or traces across the screen.
I recently ordered a Biggy program for my Mac G3.
Ever since
installing
it, our word processor and simple text has odd markings on
any
document we try to type. The markings are like long
cursors.....
On a G3, one of your suggestions is to turn
off virtual memory (VM). I know your suggestion works,
but why?
Every text I run across says that VM works well on PowerPC machines and should be turned on.
I could not find a "Click It fix" Is that related to the Click-It software?
What is the difference between Biggy and Biggy-Light?
We have tried to install Biggy on Macintosh 5300cs and an Imac. When it is installed we get error #1
We are moving a student. Can we move Biggy to another computer?
I need directions for uninstalling Biggy from an older Macintosh.
We are using Biggy with a student who is using IntelliTalk.
When
I changed the text cursor to the colors yellow/red it worked except not
with IntelliTalk.
Students with visual challenges are faced with a
number of difficult-to-see
cursors, for example, the white glove in Reader Rabbit software
from the
Learning Company. Is there any way Biggy can be used to
replace these application specific pointers with pointers from Biggy?
When I use Biggy with PhotoShop 5.5., the cursor
disappears
when placed over a canvas page (working new page).
Can Biggy for Windows change the application cursors in programs like Reader Rabbit?
Can I only order Biggy-Light on the Internet?
Can the animated/colored cursors be configured to be non-animated and in Black & White?
Can I change the color, size and thickness of the I-beam?
How big is the extra-large Windows arrow?
How big will your software make the arrow or pointer?
I would like to use Biggy while using Video Mirroring. I am getting trails behind my pointer.
How can I change the color
of a Biggy cursor or create one of my own?
Should I just wait for the Mac plug-in for CometCursors to arrive?
That is the browser-only plug-in that changes your cursor to one
chosen by the
owner of a web page, when you're on their web page.
Biggy is *global*, affecting the cursors in *any* app.
We're talking apple and oranges, when comparing the 2.
-----------------
I am having problems using biggy and on the new G3 macintosh. Is my version of biggy to old? What do I need to do?
Click here <http://www.rjcooper.com/biggy> to download the latest version of the program.
We have a G3 here at the office, with System 8.5.1 on it, and Biggy
works fine.
------------------
When I load Biggy, it crashes.
Make sure you have a current version of Biggy. It's specified
in the upper right of
the control panel, or in the Finder, if you do a Get Info.
You may download the latest version of Biggy at <http://www.rjcooper.com/biggy>.
-----------------
Biggy lasts for 15 minutes, and says our
time is up. I was looking for
how to get the full version or what ever I have to do to keep it
running
all the time.
You have a very old demo of Biggy. You may purchase Biggy from our website or submit a PO.
Biggy offers a huge variety of pointers and sells for $99.
Biggy-Light which only has a few pointers is $29. It is also available
from the website.
-------------------
What Mac System does Biggy run on?
Biggy works on all MacOS except for OS X.
----------------
How much would a site license be for BIGGY?
Our price schedule for Volume Discounts is at the bottom of <http://www.rjcooper.com/page2.htm>.
--------------
I would like to turn Biggy off once in a while.
Biggy can only be turned on/off in the control panel. You
can, of course, make an Alias to the
control panel, rename it so that there is a space in front of
the B of Biggy Alias and put it in
your Apple Menu so that it appears first, for easy access.
We do not understand why you would want to turn it off. It
benefits *everyone*.
---------------
We need to install Biggy on a PowerBook G3
(without a 3.5 disk drive). No way possible at present without
spending
loads of $$ for more adapters.
Does that computer have access to the Net? If so, go to <http://www.rjcooper.com/biggy>.
If not, then let us know what address to send a CD to, and include
this email in your reply.
-----------------
Biggy sometimes leaves "footprints" or traces across the screen.
Go to your Biggy control panel. At the top, you will see 'ClickIt'
fix.
Choose the opposite of what you have chosen. In other words,
if it is
checked then uncheck it and visa-versa. You can also try turning
off
your Virtual Memory in the Memory Control Panel and then Restart
the
computer.
-----------------
I recently ordered a Biggy program for my
Mac G3. Ever since
installing it, our word processor and simple text has odd markings
on
any document we try to type. The markings are like long
cursors.....
It sounds like you've set the Blinking Text Cursor to be taller
than it normally is. You can find
this setting in the Biggy control panel, then Others tab.
Click on the minus sign under Height
until that button goes dim. You don't need this cursor
taller than normal, usually, because it
'grows' along with the size of your font anyway. But wider
is definitely necessary and should not
leave any marks behind.
Also, make sure your Virtual Memory is OFF in your Memory control panel.
And if the above doesn't fix everything, then if your <'ClickIt'
fix> is unchecked in the Biggy
control panel, then turn check it, or...vice versa. On
my G3, I have my <ClickIt fix> checked.
-------------
On a G3, one of your suggestions is to turn
off virtual memory (VM). I know your suggestion works, but
why?
Bug in Apple's VM code. Not our fault, truly. We've
researched this completely, as it was one of
our first glitches, back in 1995 when we developed Biggy.
--------------
Every text I run across says that VM works well on PowerPC machines and should be turned on.
The only reason you'd ever need VM on is if you do not have sufficient
RAM (like less than 8 Meg)
and wanted to have several RAM-hungry apps running at a time,
like MS Word and Netscape. For
regular people like me, VM only slows down my system severely,
as it's constantly saving and
retrieving stuff to disk which would normally be handled in RAM,
and disk drives are 100X slower
than RAM.
----------------
There seems to be a catch 22 for PowerPC users - especially if they don't have much RAM to begin with.
Guess that depends on your criteria for your statement "...if they
don't have much RAM to begin
with." Try to remember the old days with 2 Meg and 4 Meg,
and somehow we got by ;-) Now, just
because it doesn't have 128 Meg of RAM, does not make it under
powered <g>.
It's an imperfect world <g>.
Sorry my answer places the blame on Apple, but every year, with
every new
Mac OS, we revisit this issue and examine Apple's VM code and
it remains basically the same.
--------------
Biggy leaves the "arrow tracks" on the screen when you move the mouse. They do not go away. What are we doing wrong?
Turn off Virtual Memory in your Memory control panel. If
that doesn't fix it, if ClickIt Fix is On,
turn it off (or vice versa).
That should do it :)
--------------
I could not find a "Click It fix" Is that related to the Click-It software?
ClickIt Fix check box is at the top of the Biggy control panel.
If you didn't see it, that means you have a very old version of
the software. Current version is
3.3.
If you don't have the latest version, click here <http://www.rjcooper.com/biggy>.
------------
We've upgraded Biggy (free upgrade for current users) so that the
cursor can go up to
64 pixels high and 32 tall. We've also added caret (blinking
text insertion cursor) fattening ability.
Plus many other things. Biggy does a whole lot more than just
make big cursors.
----------------
What is the difference between Biggy and Biggy-Light?
Biggy-Light is identical to Biggy except for the number of Biggies
:)
-----------------
We have tried to install Biggy on Macintosh 5300cs and an Imac. When it is installed we get error #1
We have Biggy installed on literally thousands of Mac around the
world. It is our biggest
product. You may have a defective disk with corrupt data?
That's just a guess.
------------
We are moving a student. Can we move Biggy to another computer?
If Biggy was purchased specifically for this student at his old
location, and you are
moving him and Biggy to a new machine, legally it should be removed
from the old machine.
Or if Biggy is 'staying' at the old location, then you would need
to purchase Biggy for the new
location.
-------------
I need directions for uninstalling Biggy from an older Macintosh.
Simply drag the Biggy control panel to the trash :) Also,
you can drag the Biggy Cursors folder,
that's in the System folder, to the trash.
---------------
We are using Biggy with a student who is
using IntelliTalk.
When I changed the text cursor to the colors yellow/red it worked
except not with IntelliTalk.
IntelliTalk 'steals' the cursor resource.
If you're on a Mac, then yes, you can change it.
If you're on Windows, not much you can do.
Let us know and we'll tell you how. Please include this email
in your reply.
----------------
I have a Biggy demo disk. I loaded it on an older Mac and the cursor was not as big as the one in your catalog.
*Everything* is smaller on a smaller *monitor* ;-)
Did you go into the Biggy control panel and try to select the Large
and
Animated Biggies?
----------------
Students with visual challenges are faced
with a number of difficult-to-see
cursors, for example, the white glove in Reader Rabbit software
from the
Learning Company. Is there any way Biggy can be used to replace
these application specific pointers with pointers from Biggy?
That is all built into the Biggy for Mac, which will automatically
double the size of application-specific cursors. Or, you
can choose to
*replace* application-specific cursors. Just go into the
Biggy control
panel, Click on the Others tab, then click on <Categorize
an
Application's Cursors>, then navigate to your application,
choose which
cursor you wish to replace, then on which Biggy type to replace
it with,
normally the Pointer.
That's it :) Cool, eh?
--------------
When I use Biggy with PhotoShop 5.5., the
cursor
disappears when placed over a canvas page (working new page).
The best thing we could recommend is to turn Biggy off (in the
control
panel Biggy) and note what cursor usually shows in Photoshop
5.5 at that
time.
Then, go into the Biggy control panel, choose Other Cursors, then
click
on Select a Category button at bottom of that tab. Then
navigate to
Photoshop application, find that cursor that shows at the time
in
question, and select the Biggy 'Pointer' to show at that time.
That might do it.
----------------
Can Biggy for Windows change the application cursors in programs like Reader Rabbit?
We are working on that, but no, the current version cannot.
We were
only able to perform that magic on the Mac.
-------------
Can I only order Biggy-Light on the Internet?
Only in quantities over 10 do we sell it via purchase order.
The primary reason the price is so low, is that it reduces paperwork.
--------------------
We ship all orders on CD these days. No more floppies :)
-------------------
Can the animated/colored cursors be configured to be non-animated and in Black & White?
There are several categories of cursors, Large & Animated, Large & Static, Medium & Animated, Medium & Static.
And yes, you can modify the cursors to be black and white using
ResEdit, or we can
do it for you, after you purchase and tell us which one you want
modified.
--------------
Could you tell me why some of my programs change the Biggy cursor and is there anything I can do to make sure the Biggy cursor is always showing?
Some software steals or replaces our cursor during some
functions. There is, though, something that
you can try.
On the Mac we can exchange their cursor for ours. This
will work in most cases, though it won't help with the
rotating arrow in the Discover software. Each rotated
arrow is a uniquely designed graphic. In Biggy we don't offer
an arrow which is rotated and so there is nothing with
which to use to replace the rotating Discover arrow.
Here is how you use Biggy to replace cursors in other
applications. Scroll down your Control Panels list
and choose Biggy. In the Biggy Control Panel, click on
the 'Others' tab. Make sure to check 'Double-sized
Application curors' ( having this checked alone will help
you). Now click on 'Categorize an Application's Cursors'.
Next, navigate to, and Open, your application. You will
see a graphic selection of all cursors used by your application.
You may replace any of these cursors with a Biggy cursor
in the Category below: Pointer, Wait, Application, Text,
Cross. Choose one and click on 'Done'.
Biggy will only replace foreign cursors with the available
'active' Biggy cursor set that you have selected and
running. In other words, you will not have a huge range
of cursors to choose from. Wish we could do more.
-----------
Can I change the color, size and thickness of the I-beam?
A definition of the blinking lines is in order. First
of all, you'll notice that as you run a word processing document, when you
move the mouse around you see the I-beam. Once you click to type, you will
also see a vertical line called the caret (or blinking text
insertion cursor). Both the caret and I-beam will be displayed
at the same time. Biggy can change both types of cursors. You can change
the Height and Width of the caret by going into the Biggy control panel and
clicking on the 'Others' tab. Here you will also find various selections for
the I-beam, Wait and Cross cursors.
-----------
I want only a stationary pointer and so I'm trying to uninstall the Biggy program. When I trash the folders, Biggy still appears for 15 minutes.
Biggy does offer large stationary (static) pointers which are less distracting yet easy to find on the screen. They are listed under 'Category' in the Biggy control panel. Have you tried them?
Sounds like you have one of our old Biggy Demo's. To remove
this, go into your Control Panels and remove Biggy
Demo.
If you have a newer version of Biggy, you can go into it's folder and double click on the uninstaller.
If you like, you can still reinstall Biggy at www.rjcooper.com/biggy
and give it another try. (c:
------------
How big is the extra-large Windows arrow?
This depends on both the size of your monitor and the
screen resolution that you have set for your monitor. The
higher you set your screen resolution, the smaller things
appear on the screen. I have a 19" monitor which is set to
1024 X 768 pixels. This is about the highest resolution
and largest screen you will find and yet my Big Biggy pointer
is still 1" tall. If I set my screen to 640 X 480, then
my Big Biggy pointer is almost 2" tall. We always suggest using
640 X 480 when working with people with special needs.
------------
How big will your software make the arrow or pointer?
The Big Buggies are the largest pointers. They have a set size and
cannot be scaled. You can download the software
from our Biggy page at http://rjcooper.com/biggy/index.html
and give Biggy a try. The Demo mode will run for 14
days.
I would like to use Biggy while using Video Mirroring. I am getting trails behind my pointer.
First turn off your Virtual Memory and then set your color depth to "Thousands" of colors.
How can I change the color of
a Biggy cursor or create one of my own?
For those hearty souls that wish to make their own Biggies, you will
need the ubiquitous ResEdit program, available online in many places. Duplicate
the Starter Biggies, and Open your desired copy in ResEdit. Biggies
are 'cicn' resources, and can be any size from 32X32 to 32X64. We stick
to those two sizes. We use the standard 16 color palette. Double
click on each resource to edit it. You can Paste PICTs into your editing
area, from other applications. Next, drag your "Color" box down to
the "Mask" box to tell your Mac which pixels in the Color box to show, and
which ones to be transparent (so you don't have one big rectangle as your
Biggy).
Finally, click on the "B & W" box and draw (use the pencil tool)
one (1) point in black to indicate your 'hot spot', that point within your
Biggy that will be your active 'location'. Save your work. (c:

Biggy is $99 because it is tailored, and has features, for the
special needs market, which is
very small.
Try <http://www.toggle.com> for a great 'mainstream' app
that does some of what Biggy does, but
with different pointers.
We'd be interested in your comparison of their pointer set versus
ours.

My application doesn't show the Biggy pointer.
Biggy for Windows enlarges any Windows cursors, but when the application
'steals' the cursor
resource, we can't really do anything about it. Many programs
out there take control of the cursor.
We *are* working on a version of Biggy for Windows that might help
with this. There won't be a
true *fix* though.
Sorry, but it's Microsoft's fault ;-)
--------------
We are moving a student. Can we move Biggy to another computer?
If Biggy was purchased specifically for this student at his old

moving him and Biggy to a new machine, legally it should be removed
from the old machine.
Or if Biggy is 'staying' at the old location, then you would need

I'm having trouble using Biggy with Microsoft EasyBall.
The driver for Microsoft EasyBall was quite flaky. That is one of the reasons they discontinued it.
We have no specific advice, unfortunately.

You bet, 95/98/ME/2000/XP.
-----------------
I've
been trying to download the Biggy for Windows 95 and keep getting a message
that it has
been infected by a "Known Trojan" virus. Can this be remedied?
We just checked both the demo and the real version online with
the
latest Norton definitions and it reports no viruses found.
We'll keep our eye on it though. We do remember about 4 months
back
that someone else reported this, but when we checked with Norton,
they
said that there was a bug in that virus definition and it was
reporting
false positives. Guess they fixed it since then.
----------------
Does the Biggy-Lite include the snake and the throbbing heart pointer?

-------------
How do I manually uninstall Biggy Demo?
Go into your Startup folder (Start Menu|Settings|Taskbar|Start
Menu Options|Advanced|Programs|Startup) and
delete the Biggy Demo shortcut. Then delete the Biggy Demo
folder.
Finally, you would need to restart to DOS mode, and go into the
Windows\System folder, and delete the Biggy.cpl control panel.
-------------
Could you tell me why some of my programs change the Biggy cursor and is there anything I can do to make sure the Biggy cursor is always showing?
Some software steals or replaces our cursor during some functions. There is, though, something that you can try.
Go to your Biggy control panel and click on the Big Biggy tab. Now
check Big Biggy
Enabled and click OK. In most 'stealing' software, the Big Biggy will
display along with the intruding cursor. This
should help you with programs like Kid Pics and Letters & Sounds.
-------------
Can I change the color, size and thickness of the I-beam?
A definition of the blinking lines is in order. First

also see a vertical line called the caret (or blinking text

Biggy can change both types of cursors except for the caret in most Windows. Only Windows XP allows you to thicken the caret. You can find this feature by going to your Control Panel and double clicking on the Accessibility Options icon.
For I-beam changing, go to the Biggy control panel and
under 'Cursor Categories - Select', click on the small black triangle to
expand your category choices. In the list, choose 'Text
I-beams'. You will see various I-beams from which to choose.
The I-beam called 'Red' has color cycling. 'Big Thick'
is the most obvious I-beam. Double click on any one of them to
choose them.

---------------
How do I replace the snakes...no snakes for me, eeeek!
Sorry about the snakes. Our newer version of Biggy and Biggy-Light defaults to a nice bold arrow (no more snakes).
You can download the latest version at www.rjcooper.com
or if you like, or you could also choose another type of pointer through
the Biggy Control Panel.
---------------
How do I return to a regular Windows cursor after I have uninstalled Biggy?
After uninstalling Biggy from your system, go to your
Control Panel, double click on the Mouse icon, click on the Pointers tab
and choose a standard Windows pointer.
---------------
How big is the extra-large Windows arrow?
The Demo mode will run for 14
days.
Can I get a super large Black pointer?
We DO have a non-animated large solid black pointer found under the 'Pointer' category.
We do not have a solid black Big Biggy pointer, but with some help
from us, you could import the Big Biggy 'Red Arrow' pointer into a
cursor editing program and fill it in with black. For details, call
us toll free at 1-800-rjcooper.
I've uninstalled Biggy and when I go to the Mouse settings, I am unable to set up a Microsoft large black arrow.
Go to your Control Panel and click on "Add Remove Programs", "Windows Setup", "Details" and place a check mark next to Accessibility Tools.
How can I change the color of a Biggy cursor or create one of my own?
You can create your own 'Regular' Biggies through a Cursor
Creator software program. There are many free ones available on the
web, but the one we like is called Axialis. You can buy it for around
$35. at www.axialis.com
Once edited or created, paste your cursor file in the
proper Biggy cursor folder and you're done. The cursor folders are
found within the main Biggy folder and are numbered Cursor00 through Cursor06.
You may want to first look at each folder's contents to see the types of
Biggies they contain.
After pasting your new cursor in the proper place, run
the Biggy control panel and you will see your new cursor listed and ready
to be selected.
