I finally was able to speak to our maintenance man who made the switch holder that attaches to Yuriy's headpiece.  He cut a piece of 16-18 gauge metal to the appropriate size (which took a little trial and error) and then dipped it several times in rubber coating dip.  That gauge metal is the right thickness to be somewhat flexible, but hold its shape.
