Application Clicker
(for making cause/effect activities out of websites/DVD's, videos, music)

You have a video you'd like to use for cause/effect training. OR...you found a website that reads a book out loud. OR...you'd like to use a DVD for cause/effect.  Now you can, with Application Clicker!

The easiest way to understand Application Clicker is to use an example.  If you go to MightyBook.com, a great site with lots of free stuff (trying to get you to subscribe, which is worth it).  In the picture above, see the Play button in the center/bottom?  (click on the pic for a larger image) Once you click the Play button, the activities at this site are continuous, they don't stop, once you start them, they don't stop until they reach the end.
But you want to turn this into a cause/effect activity, where, after a timed period, the story stops, and your Learner has to click their switch to get it going again.

Enter Application Clicker (as envisioned and guided by Ynez P, a great OT from Norfolk, VA, and created by me).  In the picture above, note my window on the left.  It directs you to "Position your cursor over your desired target, then press S to start the counter."  Application Clicker will click on the Play link, which will change to a Stop link.  The program then displays and counts down however many seconds you set it for.  It will then click on the Stop link, thus giving you your cause/effect activity!  Your Learner clicks to resume the activity (I keep the cursor over the target).

It works the same in Media Player/QuickTime Player for DVD's and videos and music!  Position your cursor over the Play button, press S to start my counter, and away you go.  Your stuff plays for X seconds, then I click to pause it.  Your Learner clicks to resume.

iTunes, TumbleBooks, Tar Heel Readers, any site that has continuous feedback can be paused by Application Clicker.

Here is the Preferences window.  Click on it to expand it and view its options.

Portability

Application Clicker, like most of my programs, is 'portable', that is, it can be copied onto a flash drive and run from there, allowing it to be used on multiple computers (but NOT *copied* to multiple computers, please).  Simply install the program as usual.  Then go into your hard drive and find the folder and copy it (Windows: right-click; Mac: Control-click).  Then Paste it onto your flash drive.  To make it even easier, go into the new folder on your flash drive, right-click on a PC (control-click on a Mac) and choose Create Shortcut (Make Alias for Mac).  Now copy that shortcut/alias to the 'root' (main) level of the flash drive.  When desired, launch program from there.
